How it reads
Supports up to 999,999,999,999.99 and rounds to the cent. English follows the American style: no “and” inside the number (one thousand two hundred thirty-four) and a single “and” between euros and cents. Spanish writes veintiún euros before a noun (veintiuno on its own), cien for exactly 100 and ciento otherwise, un millón / dos millones and mil millones for 10^9. Catalan writes vint-i-un, trenta-dos, cent un, “mil” (never “un mil”) and un milió / dos milions. Always masculine. The decimals of a plain number are read digit by digit.
Writing amounts on cheques and contracts
On cheques, promissory notes and contracts the amount is written in figures and in words so it cannot be altered. When they differ, the words normally prevail (Spanish Ley Cambiaria y del Cheque 19/1985). Write it on one line, start at the far left, close any blank space with a dash and, on cheques, use capitals.
